Scheinwerfer einstellen

Re: Scheinwerfer einstellen
My bike has had a new rear shock which I think set the headlight too low.
I tried the repositioning of the mounting screw but it was too far down. So more adjustment was required.
I had to dismantle the headlight back to the light itself to make this change.
I removed the back plate from the headlight which is the part that the mounting screws go in to. This was not too difficult, but mine was broken due to some past time when the bike has fallen. I repaired it. There are two features at the top of the headlight behind the speedometer that needs a flat bladed screwdriver to carefully free.
.. I then removed the 6 screws around the light, and installed spacers (actually a nut) under the upper middle two screws to raise the beam. I reinstalled the lower 2 screws, leaving the others off.
To lower it, then this could be done on the lower screws.
I calculated the angle needed, then made a simple calculation on the thickness of spacers needed, based on the distance between the top and bottom screws.
before I reinstalled it, I added a filler at the top of the bulb, to avoid a gap above the light bulb. Otherwise, water and weather intrusion.
I used a strip of double sided 2mm gel tape (the sort shown in the top of image), and then cut a strip of 2mm rubber sheet of the same size as the gel tape and stuck that on the other side, so it looked like this. it is what I had. There may be simpler adhesive tapes to do this.

I like to see when anybody thinks out of the box and goes his way. At least I am not alonebob2.0 hat geschrieben: ↑Fr 20. Sep 2024, 19:04My bike has had a new rear shock which I think set the headlight too low.

Here you could save time if you have read one Jeff´s old post about widening bottom holes. You did it your way so you can be proud of yourself

Re: Scheinwerfer einstellen
I did try that way but there was not enough movement possible. It would have been preferable.
At first I just put a cable tie through the hole and this held it at the furthest end of the bracket. The top plastic was already bending. This still did not raise it enough, so it had to be more dismantling. I did see that and wondered how.
I have thought since whether it might be possible to drill a hole from the front to those screws and mount the light on springs. Then, it can be adjusted from the front. The holes could be filled with a cap. But this is complicated and I think it would not take more than 20 minutes now I know what to do, if it needed it again. It is just the mounting/backing plate you have to be careful with, but it is not difficult.
Just 'Chinese plastic' is the issue. Fragile, and not always the right dimensions.

Re: Scheinwerfer einstellen
I understand, it seems that your solution is better. I did not used Jeff´s solution as I put in bi-led projectors and they are in ideal position without any bigger effort, much better than factory lights that were more like a flashilght pointing 20 m ahead so I did not see anything in front of me.
Yeah, those plastics are terrible.. I saw you have some parts broken so you already know but I am affraid that you have no idea how bad is it at all... I replaced whole rear tail, it started with broken turn signal, then rear cover etc. etc. But bike rides so what

Re: Scheinwerfer einstellen
I've got a tidy tail to go on, replace the whole of that 'stinger', which is already partially broken.
It is like putting out a big sail at the back.
It probably halves the range!

Re: Scheinwerfer einstellen
I replaced it with this - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32925027376.html
I used hole under the seat for original tail (under the seat lock) + drilled one more and it is much better, firm, clean.
BUT as it is shorter than original, I need to prolong the rear fender or add a small fender under the license plate because now the water from the road gets on my back, gets to the seat = wet butt. No bueno

Re: Scheinwerfer einstellen
I have bought exactly the same, but in two purchases for slightly more money.
The bracket is not engineered well, the holes are not straight but I can correct that when I fit it.
I am surprised that you find more water from it. I guess it is aerodynamics.
I wonder, does the number plate on the original fitment act as a spoiler, pushing air downwards and reducing vacuum effect behind the rider?
